Change in our world.

I am not at all sure what it will mean for Ethiopia as a nation, but the Prime Minister has died.
My husband's sister just called a few minutes ago; she asked if I would wake Habtamu to tell him.  They have been hearing rumors in the news for the last four weeks, it is rather emotional.  The decay and desecration of a culture that occurred under his heel on the country... At the same time, it is what brought me a Habinator to meet, fall in love with, and to populate the planet.

There is always this exchange, give and take, sacrifice in life.  Perhaps it is the way we recognize the depth of our experience, emotion, expectation, education.

I love you, Habtamu! I'm always praying for your family back home, and now with a new prayer for your homeland.  I am so sad for the losses your people have suffered over these long years. You were so brave to emigrate, I am so blessed.

My friends, if you would remember our family in Ethiopia, that they would be safe, and that we might all find peace in accepting God's will each day.  Oh! Aren't we lucky to be spared this fear and grief of a tumultuous country?! "Our government, God shield and grant success through Thy great mercy..."

Boy, a great reminder that everyone has their own story, and we don't always know what it is, and to appreciate what we have.
Thinking of you all, and I will be tuned to hear tidbits on the news of what's happening there...

I often repeat Habtamu's story to my own kids. He said he realized what "true" freedom was when he came to America-----you can be anything you want to be, as long as you WANT TO work hard enough! (sorry for my humble attempt at paraphrasing, Habtamu.)

The Ethiopian people have lived through great hardships. I will be thinking of Habtamu's family.

Of course. May blessings be rained upon Ethiopia. And, of course, Habtamu's family. Near and far.
